Introduction

Computer Science can broadly be defined as the systematic study of computing systems and computation. Increasing use of computers in our daily life has led to a phenomenal increase in the demand for skillful computer science professionals. To help meet this demand, the Yanbu University College (YUC) established an undergraduate program that relates directly and focuses on theoretical understanding, design, and applications of computer science.  The program has both academic and professional orientations which will prepare YUC graduates to meet complex challenges that may confront them in their professional careers. This program will also provide a strong foundation necessary to pursue their advanced studies in the field of computer science.

The BS-CS program is designed to provide several important features that include a set of core courses to provide breadth in the field, additional specialized courses to provide in-depth knowledge and understanding of multiple major areas of computer science. The curriculum is flexible and provides opportunity for students to specialize in different areas of their interests like Web Engineering, Mobile Computing. The program structure allows the students to choose one from three options:

  • Option 1: Senior Project
  • Option 2: COOP
  • Option 3: COOP and Course Work

Students are also given option to choose the specific track go get specialized under the following subject area.

  • Web Engineering
  • Mobile Computing

 

Our CS program closely follows the 2013 Curriculum Guidelines for undergraduate degree program in Computer Science by Joint Task Force on Computing Curricula IEEE/ACM is designed to match the standards required to achieve ABET and NCAAA accreditation.

 

Program Educational Objectives

The objectives of the Computer Science Program are to shape Computer Science graduates and prepare them to:

PEO 1     Possess and demonstrate necessary analysis, design and implementation skills required to formulate and solve computer science problems.

PEO 2     Work productively as ethically and socially responsible computer science professionals with effective communication and collaboration skills.

PEO 3     Serve as computer science professionals in national and international level and make significant contributions in the field of computer science.

PEO 4     Develop technical competencies for their professional growth by adopting new computing technologies to promote lifelong learning.

 

Student Outcomes

  1. Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
  2. Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline.
  3. Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
  4. Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
  5. Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline.
  6. Apply computer science theory and software development fundamentals to produce computing-based solutions.
