Plagiarism was the subject of the seminar delivered by Dr. Hassen Al-Talhi, faculty member at the Management Science and Industrial Management Technology department (MS-IMT). Students and faculty members benefited from his presentation at the Yanbu University College J1 Auditorium. The abstract of his seminar is given under:
Plagiarism is the act of presenting someone’s work or notions as your own property. It is considered stealing of intellectual property and cheating. Plagiarism might result in receiving a failing grade or dismissing from the institution. It could lead to consequences such as disciplinary actions. There are two types of plagiarism which are intentional and unintentional. An intentional plagiarism is related to copying a friend’s assignment, buying paper over the internet and cutting and pasting from electronic sources. However, an unintentional one is correlated to carelessness in paraphrasing, poor documentation or excessive quotations. Students who violated the institution’s honour system opposing academic integrity receive severe disciplinary actions and sanctions. A notation is placed on the student’s transcript if he or she is found guilty of plagiarism. As a result, a student may not be able to apply for admission to some institutions and may not find anyone willing to work with him on any research projects.
