The two main focus areas at the Renewable Energy Unit (REU) are Renewable Energy Systems, and Energy Efficiency. The Unit at the Royal Commission Yanbu Colleges & Institutes (RCYCI) promotes the use of renewable energy resources available in Yanbu Industrial City and the surrounding region by developing educational activities, research projects, industrial partnership, and community outreach programs. It is the Unit’s objective to raise awareness about the renewable energy and energy saving topics, besides conducting applied training on the focus areas. REU also supports Royal Commission’s renewable energy projects in Yanbu and carries out applied projects and studies in the related areas.
The Unit regularly conducts workshops and seminars on solar energy technologies and energy efficiency to promote awareness about the renewable energy. Students from the Royal Commission schools also visit the Unit on educational visits.
Three applied studies and several applied projects have also been initiated by the Unit. We also conduct surveys time-to-time about energy consumption in residential sector in Yanbu, including analysis of results and recommendations. The Unit installed meteorological station for King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy – KACARE and regularly participates in RCYCI-KACARE-ALTRAN meetings for feasibility studies of renewable energy projects.
